LG has officially lifted the curtain on its new TVs at CES 2024, but one of the biggest pieces of news is not the hardware itself.
The Korean tech company has confirmed that new models in the range will get an impressive five years of webOS upgrades, starting with webOS 28. That means that even if you don’t have the latest model from LG in a few years, you’ll still get the latest feature upgrades for free.
In addition, 2022 TVs from LG will also get this promise thanks to the new webOS Re:New program, which will launch in early 2024. So, if you have a B2, C2 or a G2, an LG OLED Flex, an LG OLED Objet Collection Posé, or LG’s 2022 QNED Mini LED 8K (QNED99/95 series) then you’ll also get these software upgrades over the next five years.
We don’t yet know if the Re:New program also applies to 2023 models such as the C3 and G3 – we have contacted LG for clarification. The company has confirmed that more TVs will be eligible in the future.
LG
Some of the key new additions to LG’s home entertainment interface include Quick Card UI, which will sort a range of content into categories like music, games and sports into simple boxes – you can see an example of this above.
One other addition is voice ID recognition, which can be used in place of passwords. This will launch in the US and South Korea in the first half of 2024, with the rest of the world TBC.
TVs will soon be able to support up to 10 different profiles, giving larger households more tailored experiences and keeping score of recently watched content and apps that have been used for better recommendations.
Each profile includes its own Picture Wizard, so you can tweak the graphics and image settings to suit your tastes. LG offers a wide range, from bright and bold vivid mode to high-refresh rates for gamers.
Multi-screen will also support four screens rather than two, allowing users to multitask even further – they can interact with every window in split screen mode rather than having to maximise one section. For further smart home compatibility, new models from LG will include Chromecast support.
LG is once again refreshing its entire range of TVs, with announcements for QLED, OLED and more models. You can read all about them here.
