As is customary at CES, new TV ranges are being unveiled and LG’s 2024 OLED models including the C4 and G4 bring new technology such as the latest in AI smarts and industry-high refresh rates.
LG already announced its Mini-LED QNED range last week but it’s the OLED models that most consumers will be excited about. Ahead of CES officially kicking off, we have all the details on the C4, G4, M4 and other sets.
One of the headline innovations for this year is a new AI processor with a reportedly 4-fold performance increase. The α11 AI processor is found in the G4 and M4 with LG saying it offers 70% better graphics and 30% faster processing compared to the α10.
There’s no escaping AI right now and in this context, these LG OLED TVs can do all kinds of things from the latest upscaling technology which can sharpen objects and backgrounds with pixel-level analysis. The AI can also refine colour by analysing frequently used shades, meanwhile Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro “fine-tunes brightness and contrast by analyzing variations in brightness where light enters the scene, creating images that look more three-dimensional.”
You’ll get all this and more on the LG Signature OLED M4 which now comes in a new 65-inch size for those wanting something less gigantic. This is LG’s wireless model and is the world’s first to offer wireless transmission of 4K images at 144Hz.
This high refresh rate (most recent flagships have been 120Hz) is also available on the OLED C4 and OLED G4 in sizes up to 83-inch. Granted, Nvidia G-Sync at 144Hz is a bit overkill but you can’t say LG isn’t futureproofing.
This year, the OLED Evo models also have Video Electronics Standards Association’s (VESA) ClearMR certification, though this doesn’t apply to any 97-inch models.
LG
LG isn’t shouting about the OLED C4 much and that might be because it’s still got an α9 AI processor. It is supposedly brighter than the LG C3 and has a new deep-learning database but not much in the way of upgrades means its predecessor could be a real bargain in 2024.
Sound isn’t forgotten about with AI Sound Pro using built-in speakers to offer an 11.1.2 surround sound experience. And users can connect wirelessly to select LG soundbars with Wowcast making life easier.
Of course, what we don’t know yet is the pricing for the LG OLED C4, OLED G4 and Signature OLED M4. The OLED B4 will also get a UK release including a new 48-inch size but the A4, like the A3, won’t be available in Blighty.
Here’s the full list of sizes for the LG OLED TV range:
- Signature OLED M4 – 65/77/83/97-inch
- OLED G4 – 55/65/77/83/97-inch
- OLED C4 – 42/48/55/65/77/83-inch
- OLED B4 – 48/55/65/77-inch
