We still don’t know too much about the Magic 6 lineup, but Honor has already confirmed a couple of key details.
Below is everything we’ve managed to find out about the Honor Magic 6 series, which looks set to include two models once again.
When will the Honor Magic 6 be released?
Honor made a big announcement at this year’s Snapdragon Summit 2023, announcing that the Magic 6 series will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Although the release date for the Magic 6 hasn’t been confirmed, Qualcomm expects first phones with its new flagship chipset to launch towards the end of 2023.
It’s not clear if that includes the Magic 6 and 6 Pro, but here’s when previous generations were announced.
If Honor follows the trend of its two previous launches, you can expect the Magic 6 and 6 Pro around February 2024. But there’s no concrete evidence that this will be the case yet.
If there ends up being a Magic 6 Ultimate, it’ll probably remain exclusive to China.
How much will the Honor Magic 6 cost?
Similar to the release date, there has been no confirmation of the pricing for the new models yet, but we can rely on previous ones for hints. Here’s how the Magic 4 and the Magic 5 phones were priced at their initial launch:
- Honor Magic 4 Lite: £249/€319
- Honor Magic 4: €899
- Honor Magic 4 Pro: £949/€1,099
- Honor Magic 4 Ultimate (China only): ¥7,999 (around £960/$1,260)
- Honor Magic 5 Lite: £329/€369
- Honor Magic 5: €899
- Honor Magic 5 Pro: £949/€1,199
- Honor Magic 5 Ultimate (China only): ¥6,699 (around £780/$975)
Honor may stick with the Magic 5 pricing, at least for the Magic 6 and 6 Pro. But it’s also possible that we’ll see some increases.
The Magic 5 Ultimate, although only available in China, cost less than its predecessor, but it is difficult to determine what awaits the Magic 6 Ultimate.
What specs and features will the Honor Magic 6 have?
There’s not a lot of information on the Honor Magic 6’s specifications at the moment either, but one of the most important is that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Honor confirmed this at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in October 2023.
The Honor Magic 6 will be also driven by an on-device LLM (large language model) containing seven billion parameters. Users will be able to use AI to to produce videos from photos and videos stored on their devices by issuing commands to the on-device smart voice assistant YOYO. And all the templates, themes and music in these videos can be tailored through additional prompts for personalised outcomes.
Honor also showcased a multimodal interaction system called Magic Capsule, which utilises eye-tracking technology. This technology enables users to control their phone by changing the direction of their gaze. While Magic Capsule is intriguing, its actual functionality and privacy implications remain uncertain.
Additionally, they presented three fundamental features of MagicRing: Connected Camera, Connected Input, and multi-device screen sharing. MagicRing, leveraging the Snapdragon Seamless technology, enables smoother and more power-efficient data exchange between devices, enhancing stability in the process.
Recent leaks on Weibo have given us a glimpse of what appears to be the upcoming Magic 6 and Magic 6 Pro will look like. To provide some context, the Honor Magic 5 featured a curved-edge display with a centred punch-hole design, while the Magic 5 Pro had a similar curved-edge screen but with a pill-shaped cut-out in the upper-left corner.
Earlier leaks suggested that the Magic 6 Pro would have a centrally located pill-shaped cutout, and the latest image leak on Weibo aligns with this rumoured design for the Magic 6 Pro. However, one image shows the rear side of the phone, but the design is hard to make out due to the device being covered by a protective case.
This leak suggests the same camera layout as the Magic 5 Pro. This would mean having a 12Mp front camera along with a depth sensor with Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology. Alongside software improvements, portrait phones should be even better,
X (formerly Twitter) user RODENT950 has also shared a render of the Magic 6 Pro based on rumours. It shows a round camera module with three cameras, including a ToF 3D depth sensor and an LED flash – the same as the Magic 5 Pro. While the overall design remains consistent, there are subtle differences in the camera arrangement compared to its predecessor.
