Disney+ is one of the leading streaming platforms in the world, with a whole host of TV shows and movies from the likes of Marvel, Star Wars and the Disney library.
However, despite being readily available in over sixty different countries, there are times when the platform has exclusive content that isn’t available in every location. For example, the US version of Disney+ doesn’t have the international Star library, which features shows that are available on Hulu and FX such as The Bear and Shōgun. Both are additional costs for American users.
Fortunately, there is a way to access another country’s version of Disney+. You can use this method when you’re travelling abroad.
How to watch Disney+ using a VPN
The best way to access another country’s version of Disney+ is to use a VPN. VPNs reroute your IP address, which means not only do they protect your identity and offer privacy while browsing the web, but they can also make it appear as if you’re in another country.
There are numerous VPNs that you can use for streaming, but our top choice would be Surfshark, as it offers a very seamless user experience and numerous servers to choose from – all of which are at a competitive price. If you’d like another option, we’d also recommend NordVPN.
We’ve been able to access several different countries’ versions of Disney+ using NordVPN. Occasionally we had to change servers to get the website to work – some servers (such as those in the US) get blocked more heavily than others.
You can take a look at other options in our list of recommended VPNs for Disney+. There are also free VPN options if you’d like to save some cash. However, these are less reliable and secure than the paid versions. We recommend trying a number of different servers if you can’t get through to the sign-up page straight away.
Once you’ve downloaded your preferred VPN, you’ll need to select your server of choice. Once you’ve done that, you can head on over to the Disney+ homepage, sign in to your account and then search for the show or film that you want to watch.
Note that you will need to have already signed up for Disney+ in your home country, as otherwise there will be the hurdle of payment information. You’ll need a card that is tied to the country you are streaming from.
You can sign up for Disney+ on the website. You can sign up for an ad-supported subscription from £4.99/$7.99 per month, or an ad-free one for £7.99/$13.99 per month.
As with any streaming platform, watching through a VPN is against Disney’s terms of service and therefore your account could be blocked by Disney. Proceed at your own risk.
