Samsung might be best known for its flagship phones, but the company has lots of more affordable devices to choose from.
That includes 2023’s Galaxy A14, which ranks as the best budget phone you can buy. The main thing you miss out on is 5G, a feature you will find on the slightly more expensive Galaxy A14 5G.
But as you might expect, attention has quickly shifted to their successors. And with the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G already official in Vietnam, we know a lot about them.
When will the Samsung Galaxy A15 be released?
Samsung officially launched the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G in Vietnam and the Philippines on 12 December 2023, before the phones went on sale there four days later.
According to Dutch tech site Galaxy Club, both handsets will be coming to Europe “at the end of 2023 or very early in 2024”. Judging by previous releases, it’s likely to be the same time in North America.
Korean site SBS Biz (via SamMobile) says Samsung will be holding an event for the Galaxy S24 series in San Francisco on 17 January 2024. Could the A14 and A14 5G launch in Europe at the same time?
For context, here’s when the previous phones were released:
- Samsung Galaxy A14 – February 2023
- Samsung Galaxy A14 5G – January 2023
- Samsung Galaxy A13 – March 2022
- Samsung Galaxy A13 5G – December 2021
Assuming Samsung continues with the same rough update cycle, it’s highly likely that we’ll see the A15 phones globally in early 2024.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy A15 cost?
So far, we only have pricing for the phones in Vietnam and the Philippines, where Samsung has already launched them:
- Samsung Galaxy A15 – from VND 4,990,000/PHP 9,990 (approx. £150/$190)
- Samsung Galaxy A15 5G – from VND 6,290,000/PHP 10,990 (approx. £170/$230)
However, the UK and US figures are simply direct conversions, and so won’t be entirely accurate. Galaxy Club believes both will be around €200, with “the 4G model just below, the 5G model just above”.
It’s possible that the pricing will be much the same as the 2023 models:
- Samsung Galaxy A14 – £179/$150
- Samsung Galaxy A14 5G – £219/$199.99
However, it would be nice to see the UK and US figures matched. Currently, UK customers are paying significantly more for the same experience.
What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy A15 have?
With the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G now official in Vietnam, we have a very good idea of what to expect. There are unlikely to be any significant changes in the global versions of both phones.
Let’s start with the regular 4G model, which looks to be a nice upgrade compared to the Galaxy A14. The usual processor upgrade is here, with the A15 powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset. However, the A14 also used the Exynos 850 in some countries, so it might be the same again.
Samsung
There are options for 4-, 6- or 8GB of RAM and 128- or 256GB of storage, so the entry-level 64GB model looks to have been ditched. If you’re still worried about running low on storage, there’s still support for Micro-SD cards.
However, it’s the display that has the most striking upgrades. The A14’s 6.6-inch, 60Hz LCD panel has been replaced with a 6.5-inch, 90Hz OLED, which should be a big step forward. Its FHD+ resolution is largely the same, but you should notice the difference when placing them side by side.
The 5000mAh battery capacity is unchanged, but the USB-C charging is moving from 15W to 25W. However, there’s still unlikely to be a charger included in the box.
It doesn’t look like the cameras are getting any attention, though, at least from a hardware perspective. You’re still getting a triple rear setup, with 50Mp main, 5Mp ultrawide and 2Mp, plus a 13Mp selfie lens. Let’s hope Samsung has upgraded the software processing to make the decent photography experience that bit better.
Samsung
On the more expensive A15 5G, there are only three upgrades. It runs the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset (at least in Vietnam), which looks to be significantly more powerful than the A15, but also the A14 5G’s Dimensity 700.
As the name suggests, that chip includes 5G support. And you also get a gyroscope sensor, allowing you to view 360-degree photos and videos.
But aside from that, it’s exactly the same phone. The 6.5-inch, 90Hz OLED panel is still an upgrade compared to the A14 5G, though.
And both new phones run Samsung’s latest One UI 6 skin over Android 14 at launch. If the commitment to updates is the same, you can expect them to get Android 16 and updates until 2027, but nothing after that.
