It’s hard to believe, but Samsung has already released four generations of its flip-style folding phone.
The latest of these, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, significantly increased the size of the cover screen, but familiar shortcomings remain: average battery life, not quite flagship cameras and slow charging.
Will any of these be addressed on the upcoming Z Flip 6? Rumours suggest improvements to at least one of these areas. Here’s everything we know about the device at this stage.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 be released?
We don’t have any concrete information regarding the release date of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. But the release dates of previous generations give us an idea of what to expect:
Assuming Samsung continues with this schedule, the Z Flip 6 is likely to arrive around July or August 2024. However, there are no rumours to support this specific release date.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 cost?
Currently, we don’t have any confirmed information regarding the pricing of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. But here are the starting price of its predecessors at launch:
As you can see, while pricing has remained consistent in the UK, it’s gradually become more expensive in the UK. However, it’s worth noting that the base model of the Z Flip 5 had twice the amount of storage of earlier models.
Will Samsung decide to increase prices on the Z Flip 5? It’s possible, though that will probably depend on how significant the upgrades are.
What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 have?
Design & displays
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 introduced several design changes, particularly with the new hinge mechanism and larger cover screen. It is likely that Samsung will further enhance these aspects, especially the hinge, as the company has consistently focused on improving its durability.
Regarding the displays, we expect that Samsung will retain the 3.4in cover panel and the 6.7in main display from the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Ultimately, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is likely to look exactly the same as its predecessor.

This is only speculation, but there have been no rumours to suggest otherwise.
Performance
The current Z Flip 5 boasts the impressive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, Qualcomm’s most capable smartphone chip at the time of launch. We now have a successor in the form of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and it’s highly likely to power the Z Flip 6.
But could Samsung’s own Exynos chips be used in some markets? As Korean tech site The Elec first reported (via SamMobile), Qualcomm’s CEO has confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy S24 phones will be split between Snapdragon and Exynos. It’s possible the same could apply to the Z Flip 6.
The maximum storage option for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is 512GB, so it’d be nice to see Samsung introduce a 1TB storage option on the Z Flip 6. But any changes to the current 8GB of RAM are unlikely.
Cameras
According to Dutch tech site GalaxyClub, an early prototype model of the Z Flip 6 includes a substantial improvement to the main camera. It’ll supposedly now be a 50Mp lens, up from 12Mp on the Z Flip 5.
No leaks or rumours have emerged regarding the other cameras. Until we hear otherwise, it’s safe to assume that the 12Mp ultrawide and 10Mp selfie cameras will remain.
Battery & charging
It’s not clear if Samsung will increase the size of the battery on the Z Flip 6. Its predecessor’s 3700mAh cell delivered solid battery life, but it’s charging where the Z Flip 5 really lagged behind.
With maximum speeds of just 25W (and no charger in the box), it only reached 40% in 30 minutes. Compare that to the OnePlus 11, which fully charges at 100W in just 26 minutes.
It’s less important, but it’d also be nice to see improvements to the 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
Software
The Z Flip 6 is likely to run Samsung’s One UI 6 software, which is based on Android 14. There are a few flip-exclusive features on the Z Flip 5, so hopefully more will be added to its successor.
